Sports partnerships

Objectives:
  • Support major sporting events in rugby and golf.
  • Promote Handisport.
2008 highlights:
  • € 13.8 million devoted to sports partnerships.
  • European title for Gladys Nocéra, the professional golfer sponsored by Société Générale since 2003.
Rugby
  • Société Générale renewed its partnerships with the French Rugby Federation (FFR) and the French Rugby League for four more seasons from June 2008 to 2012.
  • A specific programme designed to encourage young players and develop rugby sevens, which is pushing to become an Olympic sport, was signed with the FFR.
  • The Group's sponsorship of the FIRA, the European Association of Amateur Rugby Players, was also renewed for a further three years.
Société Générale's subsidiaries and entities based outside of France have also set up a number of partnerships in their respective countries and with their national federations: Romania, Germany, Komercni Banka in the Czech Republic, Serbia, Luxembourg, Moldavia and Georgia. Société Générale is also a partner for rugby in Africa (Madagascar, Senegal and Ghana) and in New Caledonia. Furthermore, the Group is also present in the country in which the sport began, England, where it sponsors two teams: Saracens and Bristol. The Montreal rugby club has also just signed up with the Group.
Golf
  • Negotiation of a new contract for 2009-2011 with the French Golfing Federation, which gives Société Générale the status of Major Partner.
  • Support for the Federation's "programme Jeunes" (young golfers programme) which aims to develop golf for kids (initiation in clubs, support for the "tests drapeaux" badges) and for students (Trophée étudiant).
2008 saw French champion Gwladys Nocéra become the number one in Europe after an outstanding season. Société Générale has sponsored Gwladys since she began her career on the professional circuit in 2003.
The Group's partnership with the major ladies world tournament, the Evian Masters, as a presenting sponsor meant that, on its 15th anniversary in 2008, the Masters ranked amongst the top international tournaments - on a par with the US Open!
Handisport
The additional support provided by Société Générale to the French Handisport Federation in 2008 meant that it was able to organise its Handisport Open Tour throughout France from April to October in celebration of the 2008 Paralympic Games in Peking. The aim of the tour was to familiarise the general public with the sports practiced by disabled athletes through different demonstrations and events.
