Retail banking in France

A core priority for any retail banking network is to forge longstanding relations with its customers, be they individuals, businesses, local authorities, etc. In France, for example, Société Génerale retail banking customers stay with the Group for around thirteen years on average (figure in 2008).This loyalty rewards our constant efforts to improve the quality of our services, our respect for all of our customers, however large or small and, more generally, our longstanding reputation as a responsible company whose goal is to proactively contribute to economic growth.
The strong development of the French economy will always be one of our main concerns. In 2008, the Group not only played an active part in the government plan aimed at encouraging increased lending to corporates and individuals but, jointly with the European Investment Bank, set up a credit line for SMEs.
Société Générale has always upheld each of the legal and regulatory obligations that apply to its profession. It has always complied with the laws governing client information on savings products, account agreements and the disabled community. What is more, Société Générale is committed to initiatives that serve the public interest. In France, for example, its involvement in various associative bodies represented a market share of over 10% in 2008.
