INTERNATIONAL RETAIL BANKING

Across 37 countries and France’s Overseas Departments and Territories, Société Générale's International Retail banking network has developed and adapted its universal banking to suit local contexts and cultures.

International Retail Banking

The bank's international retail banking network is a major growth driver in Société Générale Group's strategy of targeted development in high potential regions. At the end of 2008, the bank's international retail banking network served a diversified client base of individual, professional, business and institutional clients and associations in 37 countries and France's Overseas Departments and Territories.

Local legislation permitting, subsidiaries offer their clients similar products and services to those available in France. Moreover, in bringing innovative structures and processes to their domestic markets, they are a source of healthy competition, like their quality procedures.
Since the Group's adherence to the Equator Principles, Société Générale has worked to heighten awareness amongst its global network of the gravity of environmental and social risks. BFV-SG in Madagascar, for example, since integrates environmental criteria in its loan approval process.
The international retail network has also focused on developing greater expertise and resources in financing very small, medium-sized and micro-enterprises which are fundamental to the economic and social fabric of emerging and transition countries.
The highest priority for Société Générale's international retail division, however, is microfinancingand proactively meeting the needs of migrant customers by providing the right products and services.
