Serving the green and solidarity economies **

Société Générale is conscious of the role it can play in steering financing towards the protection and preservation of the environment.

Under the banner of "green loans", it finances renewable energy sources (wind, solar, thermal or photovoltaic, geothermal, hydroelectrics, biomass energy, etc.), cogeneration, biofuels and all aspects of recycling as well as the processing of waste, smoke and fumes.
It is also aware that these are sensitive categories and that society does not place the same value on all of them. As an example, although it contributes to the fight against greenhouse gases, nuclear sector financing is not included under the heading of green financing. Green financing is a sector that boasts an investment potential of several billion euros. Following the implementation of the European directive in line with the Kyoto Protocol, renewable electricity in France should, for example, increase from 15 to 21% in the next ten years.
Green financing represents a major axis for development that can take a multitude of forms for banks both in France and abroad: corporate loans, leasing, project finance, export loans, etc.
See examples of Société Générale loans in the fields of renewable energies, waste treatment or public transport.
Société Générale either plays a direct part in projects or provides its expertise in assisting its clients.
It covers a scope of several target sectors (renewable energies, waste treatment and public transport).
