ALD Automotive : Promoting the "responsible" use of vehicles amongst staff and customers **

In 2008, ALD Automotive launched its new environmental offer, ALD bluefleet.
ALD bluefleet is an "umbrella" offer that regroups all of the "green" products marketed by ALD Automotive subsidiaries to help customers identify the different environmental products and services on offer in each country. The offer also provides ALD Automotive customers with a means of completely or partially offsetting the CO2 emissions of their fleets. Offsetting is calculated according to a customer's actual or estimated mileage.
Environmental priorities
  • Encourage eco-driving
  • Provide all customers with feedback reports on their CO2 emissions
  • Protect people and protect the environment
Highlights in 2009

Enhancement of Société Générale's ALD bluefleet offer
  • In France and Belgium, launch of a new vehicle cleaning service that does not require the use of water => ALD care. ALD Care not only uses biodegradable cleaning products and only 5 litres of water per wash, but also offers jobs that are specifically aimed at reintegrating disadvantaged groups in the labour market*
  • Analysis of the CO2 emissions of its different fleets in order to accurately determine their carbon footprint and establish the best way forward in reducing these emissions*
  • Launch of a new program across the 5 continents that is devoted to offsetting the activity's CO2 emissions*
  • Roll out of further training on ecological behaviour in the majority of our establishments
  • Organisation of "fuel races" - a new competition that aims to show how the way people drive affects how much fuel they use and what they can do to cut down.
  • Nordic countries: Development of the ALD Index, an environmental rating that classes different vehicles on the market according to their ecological impact on the basis of their emissions (CO2, hydrocarbons, NOx, SO2 and particles).
  • Installation of particle filters on all vehicles already in use in the Netherlands.
  • Organisation of a ALD bluefleet day during which ALD Automotive presented its environmental offer to 400 French customers (vehicle test drives and simulator rides, manufacturer stands promoting their ecological offers, etc.).
New electric vehicle partnerships with manufacturers
  • Signing of a partnership with Renault and PSA for the joint development of an electric vehicle offer for company and government fleets.
Our commitments on the road to CSR

Customer commitments
Safety
ALD Automotive works hand-in-hand with its customers to help prevent accidents and heighten driver awareness of the dangers of the road. The majority of its subsidiaries offer theory and practical courses on improving driver safety which have an immediate financial and ecological impact.
Responsible driving
ALD Automotive offers eco-driving courses that demonstrate how the way in which people drive has an inevitable impact on their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This practical training is complemented by web tools to remind participants what they have learned so far and how they can continue to improve the way in which they drive. So far, the training has delivered tangible results: participants that completed the course participants have reduced their fuel consumption by between 10 and 18% for example. The challenge now is to keep on improving these figures in the future.
Moreover, in certain "sensitive" countries, ALD Automotive also offers training in defensive driving strategies for the security and safety its staff.

ALD e-factures
Invoicing at the click of a button and available at any time from ALD e-factures.
As part of our commitment to sustainable development, we recently measured the volume of paper used for the invoices we send to our customers in France: today, that volume corresponds to over 10.5 tons of paper each year. In the interests of sustainable development and the environment, ALD Automotive has subsequently enhanced its ALD bluefleet offer with a free service that gives customers access to all of the invoicing information linked to their fleet at any point via ALD net, a new management extranet.
Thanks to ALD e-factures, our customers are able to consult the details of their invoices for the last 18 months in PDF format on ALD net.

Environmental commitment
ALD has renewed its fleet with vehicles that produce less CO2.
It promotes greater customer awareness via the publication of guides and tips on the impact of vehicle traffic on the environment and the importance of vehicle maintenance. Moreover, to ensure the concrete success of its initiatives, ALD Automotive regularly measures CO2 emissions.
ALD map: The environment is one of the major concerns of drivers today. To help resolve the problem, ALD Automotive's new customer offering, "ALD map", is the first multi-manufacturer, multi-vehicle portable GPS navigation system. With maps and functions that are updated every three months, the system also proposes the most environmentally-friendly routes, which can save drivers up to 2,500 km in mileage (i.e. € 400/yr/vehicule) and help reduce CO2 emissions. More efficient driving habits can save 12% of a vehicle's annual fuel consumption and cut its CO2 emissions by the same amount.
Internal commitments
Conscious of the environmental and social impact of its activities, ALD Automotive has implemented a certain number of good practices in-house in order to limit its environmental footprint and improve working conditions for its employees: "Switch lights off" labels in all shared areas (meeting rooms, toilets, etc.), participation in No print days", configuration of all photocopiers to print on both sides, etc.
Two ALD entities are ISO 14000-certified (ALD Automotive UK and ALD Automotive Sweden), and the company has lent a new vehicle for transporting disabled children to the French association "Agir, Soigner, Eduquer et Insérer (ASEI)".
Finally, ALD Automotive also lends utility vehicles to the association "Restos du Coeur" which uses them to distribute help to the homeless during the winter months.
