Responding to climate change **

Set up in 2006 between Société Générale and Rhodia, orbeo is the first joint venture between a bank and an industrial group on the CER (Certified Emission Reduction) market. The company, in which each of the partners holds a 50% stake, is a major player in the global carbon market.

It manages a portfolio of around 100 million CERs (carbon credits) originating from the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects set up by Rhodia in South Korea and in Brazil over an investment horizon of 2007-2012. These projects are intended to reduce emission levels of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol. In 2008, Rhodia’s CER volumes represented around 15% of CERs worldwide.
